Almazov Centre welcomes patients from all over the world for outstanding care.
Almazov National Medical Research Centre was founded in 1980 by a prominent Russian cardiologist Professor Vladimir Almazov to reduce morbidity, mortality, and disability from cardiovascular disease.
Since its inception in 1987, Cardiac Surgery Department has taken medical care to a whole new level. Throughout our history, clinicians and researchers have laid the foundation for what has grown to be one of the finest medical facilities in Russia.
Today, Almazov Centre uniquely and harmoniously combines the basic and applied research in various fields with the delivery of diverse specialized medical care, including high-tech care, as well as continuous interdisciplinary training of research and medical staff.

As a leading 1525-bed hospital, research and teaching centre, we are committed to providing the highest level of quality care to patients. Each year, nearly 170,000 patients are seen and treated at Almazov Centre, with needs ranging from minor diagnostic procedures to complex surgery.

In 2019, the doctors at Almazov Centre performed 8,781 cardiovascular surgeries in adults (including 25 heart transplants, 216 off-pump surgeries, 178 aortic surgeries).
More than 800 urologic robotic surgery procedures have been performed since 2009. The robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy was performed for the first time in Russia at Almazov Center in 2011. In 2016, the Robotic Surgery Center was established. Today, two robotic systems (da Vinci S and da Vinci Si) are used to perform surgical procedures meeting the highest world standards.
For hematology/oncology/bone marrow transplant, about 3,000 patients were treated in 2019. We continue to improve the method of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with hematologic malignancies.
Bariatric surgery is an innovative surgical treatment option offered at Almazov Centre. The multidisciplinary approach used at Almazov Center draws on the expertise of the world’s leading organizations dedicated to metabolic and bariatric surgery.
In 2018—2019, Almazov Centre performed more than 2,550 gynecology surgeries and about 1,500 IVF cycles.
