International Rare Disease Day usually takes place on February 29. The date is not a random choice, for a rare day marks a rare disease. In non-leap years, Rare Disease Day falls on February 28.

Specialists from the Almazov Centre work closely on the treatment and rehabilitation of children with rare diseases, explore the peculiarities of diagnosis and clinical manifestations and pay much attention to the problem of expensive drugs.

International Rare Disease Day is intended to draw the attention of the professional medical community to the importance of studying rare diseases and the need of creating orphan drugs to treat them.

This year, charity events, conferences, roundtables, interviews with experts in federal and regional mass media and many other special events will be held across Russia.
