Klinikum rechts der Isar clinic
On December 6–8, the Klinikum rechts der Isar clinic in Munich, Germany, hosted the 8th Munich Vascular Conference (MAC 2018).
The Conference was organized by professional European societies for vascular surgery, Munich Aortic Center, Munich Heart Alliance and Klinikum rechts der Isar headed by Prof. Hans-Henning Eckstein.
More than 30 sessions covered the most topical issues in modern vascular, endovascular, hybrid surgery. The participants discussed innovative minimally invasive treatments for aortic aneurysms: fenestrated and branched stent grafts are becoming the treatment of choice for aneurysms involving the visceral branches and aortic arch branches.
Mikhail Chernyavsky, MD, DSc, Head of Vascular Surgery Clinic at the Almazov Centre, took part in the Conference. At the session devoted to aortic diseases, he presented the long-term results of hybrid surgery in patients with aortic arch aneurysms. The clinic’s experience in treating aortic arch aneurysms has shown that such treatment is associated with the minimal invasiveness, minimal trauma, decreased perioperative complications, early rehabilitation and greater cost efficiency.

The programme featured the hot topics in vascular surgery. Separate sessions were devoted to diseases of carotid artery, aorta and peripheral arteries. More than 150 presentations were given. There were eleven workshops on the most requested topics in the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of aorta and its branches, venous diseases.
It should be noted that at MAC 2018, Dr. Michael Kallmayer, Head of Vascular Surgery Department at Klinikum rechts der Isar, and Dr. Chernyavsky reached an agreement on organizing mutual training courses and workshops in future.
Participation in conferences that bring together the leading European specialists in vascular surgery opens up new horizons for mutually beneficial cooperation between countries, institutions and clinics, providing a different perspective at existing problems in medicine and new solutions.
