During the 25th All-Russian Congress of Perinatal Medicine Specialists Modern Perinatology: Organization, Technology, Quality, which took place on October 4–5, 2020 in Moscow, Director General of Almazov Centre Evgeny Shlyakhto was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Russian Association of Perinatal Medicine Specialists.
Prof. Shlyakhto thanked the colleagues for this high honour:
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for awarding me with the Honorary Diploma of your outstanding association. I take this award not only as my personal merit in perinatology, I share it with all my staff who deal with the problem of perinatal medicine.
We embarked on this path almost 13 years ago, and I remember very well how together with Nikolai Volodin, who at that time worked in the Ministry of Health, created the first specialized perinatal centre in Russia. It was a journey into the unknown, but we quickly realized that we were moving in the right direction. Over the past 10 years, about 30,000 children were born at the Perinatal Centre of Almazov Centre to women with obstetric or fetal complications in more than 80% of cases. These were mainly children from parents with severe medical conditions, cardiovascular diseases, severe pulmonary hypertension, neuroendocrine and neurosurgical disorders.
Every year, our Centre performs more than 200 cardiovascular surgeries on children with critical heart defects.
I consider this award as a step towards a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of severe and complicated patients, using the expertise of different specialists to achieve the best result.”
