On June 2, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Almazov Centre, the Russian Society of Cardiology and Amgen biotechnology company signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of education in the field of medicine, biotechnology and genetic engineering using advanced technologies in the Russian Federation. The MoU was signed for a period of 2 years.

The parties see it as their goal to work together towards developing education in the field of medicine, biotechnology and genetic engineering using the advanced technologies and international experience of Amgen. The participants intend to develop educational programmes, exchange experience with international experts and arrange career guidance events in these areas.

“The younger generation should be taught in those technologies and methods that will be pertinent to health care at the time of their graduation, that is, 6–8 or more years from now. Such training is possible only in research centres where the technologies of tomorrow are already available. Using international experience and interactive platforms in cooperation with Amgen will help develop a modern educational programme and significantly contribute to the development of education in the field of medicine and biotechnology in Russia,” said Evgeny Shlyakhto, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director General of Almazov Centre, President of the Russian Society of Cardiology.

Experts of the Medical Education Institute of Almazov Centre plan to use an extensive base of courses, a library of practical and laboratory resources of the Amgen Foundation, integrate them into new and existing courses for students and residents, and exchange their experience with foreign colleagues. The parties seek to organize the networking space for obtaining practical knowledge in the field of biotechnology, biology, medicine using simulation equipment and interactive applications. It is planned that the space will admit interested visitors from St. Petersburg.

“We are happy to partner with Almazov Centre in their work on youth development. We believe that the Centre has impressive facilities to provide real laboratory knowledge and comprehensive hands-on experience. We believe that our joint efforts will create a generation of young scientists and local developments in the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering in Russia,” stated Ugur Gunaydin, Director General, Russia & CIS Amgen.
