In his speech at the meeting of the RAS Presidium, Academician Evgeny Shlyakhto spoke about its main topic “Scientific basis of personalized medicine – realities and opportunities.”
Evgeny Shlyakhto highlighted that the issue of personalized medicine using big data as well as result-based data is of utmost importance. In this regard, he spoke about how Almazov Centre has already been implementing projects on artificial intelligence, modeling and application of machine learning methods.
“Much is being done in this area by the Ministry of Health, and today we are creating a WMS system that will be integrated into the personalized health care system,” noted Evgeny Shlyakhto.
Prof. Shlyakhto also emphasized the importance of education as a crucial component for the introduction of personalized medicine and the need to train new format professionals. Almazov Centre has already been doing it successfully at the level of specialist, master's, residency, PhD training and continuing education in close cooperation with the Translational Medicine Cluster.
“The global benefit is obvious to everyone – payers, institutions, patients and society. Besides, personalized medicine will help reduce the burden on the economy and improve public health,” added Evgeny Shlyakhto, highlighting the need for ecosystems that will integrate knowledge, infrastructure, digital technologies and bring together research, training, clinical capabilities and practice.
“I am very glad that this year of science and technology we are considering this crucial issue of personalized medicine development in the Russian Federation, and I believe that 2021 can become fundamental in this regard,” said the Academician.
