On 21st April 2017, the Board of Trustees meeting of Almazov Centre officially opened the Children's Rehabilitation Clinic on Kolomyazhsky avenue in St. Petersburg. The clinic has all necessary conditions and facilities for the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in outpatient and inpatient settings of Russian and foreign patients from birth to 18 years of age.
The staff of the clinic consists of the most experienced doctors with degrees of candidates and doctors of science. The 168-bed hospital currently has three departments dedicated to provide high-tech and specialized medical care in such areas as pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, nephrology, rheumatology, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, medical rehabilitation and many others. The outpatient department has 200 visits per day.
It should be noted that pediatrics came into existence at Almazov Centre a little over 10 years ago. The decision taken by the management in 2017 to merge the departments of the Perinatal Centre, the Children's Cardiac Surgery Unit and the Children's Rehabilitation Clinic into the Clinic of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics made it possible to implement the most promising and needed areas of modern medicine designed to preserve and maintain maternal and children’s health.
“Five years passed quickly, but each of these days was filled with invaluable effort for the benefit of our patients – women and children. There are new challenges to look forward to and I am sure we will meet them with dignity,” emphasized Dr. Tatiana Pervunina, Director of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics, in her congratulatory speech to the colleagues
Over the past five years, more than 13,000 patients have been treated at the Children's Rehabilitation Clinic, including children with severe forms of chronic heart failure and those awaiting heart transplantation or undergoing post-transplant rehabilitation, babies with severe endocrine and rheumatological disorders, infants with severe unfavorable perinatal outcomes, children with rare and understudied diseases. The Clinic’s specialists have become recognized experts for the treatment of some of these conditions. In addition, the Children's Rehabilitation Clinic is the only place in Russia to use Da Vinci surgical system for gynecological surgery on children and adolescents.
