Specialists at Almazov Centre have begun to use the technology of voice-to-text data entry in diagnostic radiology. This has become possible thanks to the Voice2Med product developed by the STC Group.
This technology allows to reduce the time of interpreting up to 30%. The next stage, which is already under completion, is the integration of Voice2Med with the medical information system qMS in order to implement the one contact principle via MIS without the use of third-party applications. Now the technology is being tested and set up for implementation, including in the functional testing department. It is planned to further develop voice-to-text data entry technologies for other medical areas at the clinic of Almazov Centre.
Voice2Med allows the medical documents to be completed in real time by converting the doctor's voice into text. The information is instantly decoded and sent to an open protocol of a medical information system. Voice2Med correctly recognizes all medical terms and abbreviations. Due to the ability to connect thematic language models the doctor receives a fully completed medical protocol that requires a minimum of corrections. The solution allows doctors to document using voice recognition, without being distracted from the examination, thus dedicating more time to the patient, rather than the routine.
“It is natural for us to transmit information by voice – this is physiological, habitual and convenient. Voice input can significantly optimize the working time of medical professionals, improve the quality of medical history taking and reduce labor costs. All these positive effects lead to an improvement in the quality of medical care and reduce the burden on doctors. Already at the start of the project, we observe that voice data input into the medical information system, using the example of interpreting radiation imaging studies, saves from 20% to 30% of the radiologist’s time,” said Dmitry Kurapeev, Deputy Director General for Information Technology and Project Management.

Dmitry Dyrmovsky, CEO of the STC Group of Companies: “The Russian language is not analytical, like English, but synthetic – various forms of declension and conjugation of words are combined into one word form, so the development of voice input for medical protocols in Russian was a serious technological challenge. Today this task has been solved – the quality of Russian speech recognition in the Voice2Med product reaches 97-98%, it does not contain borrowed components, the product is included in the register of Russian software. The advent of such a product has formed a large-scale trend of medical voice input for digital medicine. The implementation of Voice2Med is scaling across the country, and we welcome its use in Almazov Centre, where the product demonstrates high efficiency already at the start of the project.”
The Diagnostic Radiology Department has been successfully using the Voice2Med software for a year already: 20 radiologists use it every day at all sites of Almazov Centre.
“The accumulated experience made it possible to understand the importance and necessity of this system for the radiologist’s practice. This program is fully adapted to the complex and specific medical vocabulary. The use of this product made it possible to increase the radiologist’s performance, significantly speed up the process and make it more comfortable, convenient and up-to-date. What is most important, Voice2Med has reduced patient waiting times for radiological examinations. The program is being improved all the time, every doctor has daily contact with colleagues from the SRT team, making adjustments and suggestions if necessary. The use of this product is, of course, a huge step forward,” says Head of the Radiology Department Ilona Basek.
At the beginning of June 2022, the STC group announced that the capabilities of Voice2Med have been significantly expanded – a new list of medical terms has been added to the existing dictionaries of a general practitioner and pediatrician, CT radiologist, MRI, pathologist, ultrasound doctor and endoscopist, cardiologist and surgeon – dentist’s dictionary. In addition, STC created a mobile workplace for a doctor – they made it possible to use voice input using a tablet, which is convenient when an office with a desktop computer is not available. Mobile workplaces may be needed for ambulance specialists, pathologists, forensic experts, doctors on rounds. The desktop version of Voice2Med is used in 80 medical institutions in Moscow and 65 regions of Russia and continues to scale up.
