On the eve of City Day, a ceremony was held in Smolny to honour the recipients of St Petersburg Government awards for outstanding achievements in science and technology and in higher and secondary education. The awards were presented by St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.
Professor Dmitry Lebedev, Head of Arrhythmology Research Department at the Institute of Heart and Vessels received the prestigious I.P. Pavlov Award in Physiology and Medicine for 2023.
Dmitry Lebedev laid the scientific and practical foundations for a group of arrhythmologists who are actively developing a wide range of innovative treatments for heart rhythm disorders, and has authored more than 250 scientific papers, monographs and inventions.
Every year, the St. Petersburg Government awards 21 prizes for distinguished achievements, including 6 awards for young scientists under the age of 35. Each of the awards is named after outstanding St. Petersburg scientists who have made a significant contribution to the development of science: A.F. Ioffe, D.I. Mendeleev, I.P. Pavlov, Zh.I. Alferov, N.I. Vavilov, A.S. Popov and others. In 2023, 123 award applications were submitted, including 49 for the young scientist award.
This year, 48 people won the St. Petersburg Government Award for outstanding achievements in the field of higher and secondary education.
