Research interests: prevention, immunological features, diagnostics and treatment of lung diseases in children and adults

In 1998 — Saint Petersburg Pediatric Medical Academy, “Pediatrician”.

In 1998—2001 – clinical residency “Phthisiopulmonologist” in “St. Petersburg Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology”.

In 2001—2005 — full-time postgraduate study at the Department of Phthisiopulmonology of Saint Petersburg medical Academy of postgraduate education.

In 2003 — defense of the dissertation for the degree of candidate of medical sciences “Diagnosis of tuberculosis of intrathoracic lymph nodes of the paraaortic group” in the specialties “Phthisiopulmonologist” and “Radiation diagnostics”.

In 2005 were accepted as a researcher in the Department of pediatric Phthisiopulmonology, in 2006 worked as senior researcher, since to March 2013 as a head of Phthisiopulmonology Department in Saint Petersburg State Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology.

In 2013 — Thesis doctor of medicine science “Tuberculosis in children from the family center of infection (clinical course, diagnosis and prevention)” in the specialty “Phthisiopulmonology”.

From May 2016 to 2018 — leading researcher at the Saint Petersburg State Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology.

From December 2017 to December 2019 — leading researcher in the laboratory of “Mosaics of autoimmunity” in Saint Petersburg State University under the supervision of Professor Y. Shoenfeld.

From March 2020 to the present — head of scientific researches department in Almazov National Medical Research Centre.

Work experience in the specialty – 20 years. Clinical research work in the specialties “Phthisiopulmonologist”, “Pediatrics” and “Pulmonologist”.

Supervision of dissertations

Under the guidance of A.A. Starshinova, five dissertations were defended, four dissertations for the degree of candidate of medical Sciences and one dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences are being performed:

  • “Improving the effectiveness of chemotherapy for extensively drug-resistant respiratory tuberculosis” (Belyaeva E.N., 2018);
  • “Clinical and immunological characteristics of autoimmune inflammation in tuberculosis and pulmonary sarcoidosis” (Zinchenko Yu.S., 2019);

  1. “Multicenter randomized double-blind placebo-controlled parallel-group study of the effectiveness and safety of the drug Perchlozon® in the complex treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with MDR-MBT, including HIV infection” phase IV from 2014 (responsible investigator until 2018);
  2. “Multicenter 12-week double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial on the selection of optimal dosages of the drug Tiozonid, capsules («Pharm-Sintez») on background standard anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with multiple or extensively drug-resistance” phase II from 2015 (responsible investigator until 2018);
  3. “Multicenter open-label randomized comparative clinical study of the effectiveness and safety of Budespir ® Langhaler®, dosed inhalation powder, and Budesonide Iziheiler, dosed inhalation powder, in the treatment of patients with mild or moderate persistent asthma”, phase III from 2015 to 2016 (responsible investigator);
  4. “Multicenter open randomized comparative clinical study of the effectiveness and safety of the use of Formospir ® Langhaler ®, metered-dose inhalation powder, and Formoterol Isiheiler, metered-dose inhalation powder, in the treatment of patients with mild or moderate persistent asthma” phase III from 2015 to 2016 (responsible investigator);
  5. “Open, multicenter, randomized study of the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of the drug “Inbutol®”, solution for injection 100 mg / ml (“Yuriya-Pharm”, Ukraine), in comparison with the drug “Etambutol”, tablets 400 mg (“Pharmasintez”, Russia) for the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis as a part of complex therapy” phase III since 2016, completed by the decision of the sponsor in 2017 (responsible investigator);
  6. “Multicenter open-label randomized trial with active control to assess the early bactericidal activity, safety and pharmacokinetics of PBTZ169 when used in patients with newly diagnosed respiratory tuberculosis with bacterial release and preserved sensitivity to isoniazid and rifampicin” according to Protocol no. PBTZ169-A15-C2A-1, phase II from May 2017 to September 2017 (responsible investigator);
