Ekspertnyy syezd

On 5-7 March, Turkey hosted for the first time several meetings of experts from different countries in the field of endovascular surgery for lower limb arterial disease, organized by the world leaders in peripheral procedures. The first day was dedicated to the meeting of Russian experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Chelyabinsk, Arkhangelsk, Surgut and Blagoveshchensk. Almazov Centre was represented by Yulia Panteleeva, researcher at the Research Department of Vascular and Interventional Surgery.

The aim of the meeting with Russian specialists was to facilitate a productive dialogue between the new generation of leading experts in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and to highlight key points for the development of advanced endovascular technologies in the country.

Almazov Centre is a flagship medical centre for the treatment of patients with diseases of the aorta and peripheral arteries. The centre uses the latest treatments and innovative developments in vascular surgery: from open surgical procedures to endovascular and robotic technologies. Thanks to the vast experience of the vascular surgery team, who perform around 1,500 procedures on the aorta and its branches every year, their opinion is highly valued in the professional community and makes a valuable contribution to the development and implementation of new treatment methods in the Russian regions.

During the roundtable, experts discussed such important issues as the need to increase the number of procedures performed annually, especially endovascular procedures using drug-eluting technologies for lower limb arterial disease, and the training of specialists from different regions of the country to improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients.

In a lively discussion, Xavier Bertrand, Vice President for Peripheral Interventions, and Colin Robb, Senior Medical Affairs Manager at Boston Scientific, addressed critical issues in the management of this complex patient group. Each leader shared their views on what steps could be taken to promote advanced technologies in Russia to improve the medical care for patients with lower limb obliterating atherosclerosis.

Federal centres such as the Almazov Centre, whose activities are a symbiosis of research, clinic and education, are the driving force behind the introduction of the latest technologies, including in the field of cardiovascular surgery. Therefore, the participation of the Centre's experts in such a meeting is crucial for the development and dissemination of new treatment methods in Russia.
