The advanced training course led by Mikhail Chernyavsky, Head of Vascular and Interventional Surgery Department, was devoted to the prospects for development of minimally invasive procedures for treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD) in the lower limbs, planning and techniques of endovascular interventions for atherosclerotic disease. Doctor Ralf Langhoff from Sankt-Gertrauden Hospital, Academic Teaching Hospital of Charité University (Berlin, Germany) shared his experience in this field.
The trainees attended three workshops in the hybrid operating room of the Almazov Centre. The patients underwent recanalization with balloon angioplasty and stent placement in iliac and femoropopliteal arteries, balloon angioplasty in crural arteries.
The specialists demonstrated the possibilities of hybrid surgery allowing surgeons to perform staged procedures with total intraoperative control in the same operative setting. CT angiography was used during the surgery to immediately see the result and avoid repeated scanning in the postoperative period.
