March 4, 2014 Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre held a conference with international participation “Innovative technologies in acute coronary syndrome”.

The conference was opened with the welcoming speech by Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg Health Committee Tatyana Zasukhina, she stressed the importance of further care improving in patients with ACS and the use of new advanced technologies of treatment. Then Leonid Kokov, a board member of the Russian Scientific Society of Interventional Radiology and Endovascular Surgery, said some greeting words.

The key event of the conference was the lecture by a renowned expert in the field of endovascular surgery in the United States of America Sameer Mehta. He noted that after his last visit to St. Petersburg two years ago, there is tremendous progress in the development of a regional system of patients with ACS care, new centers are opened, the number of percutaneous interventions increased, and as a consequence, mortality in myocardial infarction decreased.

Closing remarks were made by Oleg Averkov, the leading expert in the field of emergency cardiology in Russia. After all the reports there was a debate that has been extremely busy as a consequence of the importance and urgency of the problem. In particular, the issues of prehospital care, assistance of centers without cardiac surgery services, types of percutaneous interventions, as well as funding under the compulsory health insurance were covered.

The conference was attended by physicians not only from St. Petersburg, but also from Moscow and the North- West Federal District. Specialists of city agencies and ambulances participated also in the discussions on patients care.

After the speeches, there was a clinical case of the patient admitted to Almazov Federal Centre with acute myocardial infarction a few hours before the conference. The young patient was successfully performed percutaneous coronary intervention.

After clinical analysis finished, the participants discussed another important questions about the prospects of a regional system of care for patients with ACS in St. Petersburg.

The conference was followed by a master class “Modern standards of cardiopulmonary resuscitation”. European Resuscitation Council has developed effective techniques for resuscitation training, not only for health professionals but also for those who may require the knowledge and skills in this area.

It is worth noting that over the past two years certification resuscitation cycles conducted by Almazov Federal Centre are getting very popular and cause practitioners interest.
