Unique bacterial strains with oncolytic properties discovered

Researchers of the Microbial Therapy Research Department of the WCRC for Personalized Medicine have isolated unique Streptococcus pyogenes strains, M49, M111, with oncolytic properties against cell lines of hepatoma, sarcoma, pancreatic and brain cancer.

Whole genome sequencing of these oncolytic Streptococcus strains revealed the surface structures of strains that have a cytotoxic effect on tumor cells. Based on these data, recombinant peptides were obtained, which are being studied for oncolytic and immunomodulatory effects.
