Research focus areas: electrophysiological, neuro-dependent and structural mechanisms of development and progression of cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure and other cardiovascular system dysfunctions. Interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure, cardiac pacing. Complex approaches to interventional correction of arrhythmias in structural pathology of the heart. Neuromodulation for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Prevention of sudden cardiac death. Observational studies in arrhythmias. Processing and algorithmization of the analysis of electrocardiographic signals. Development of new catheter ablation technologies for the treatment of arrhythmias and denervation, non-invasive methods for correcting blood pressure and heart failure management.
Clinical focus areas: management of cardiac arrhythmias (catheter ablation for complex tachyarrhythmias, especially in severe structural heart diseases; drug therapy), implantation of devices for the correction of cardiac conduction disturbances, treatment of heart failure and prevention of sudden death.
In 2004, he graduated with honors from Pavlov First St. Petersburg State Medical University, specializing in General Medicine. From 2004 to 2005, he took an internship in Internal Medicine.
From 2005 to 2007, he took a residency in Cardiology at Almazov Centre.
Since his student years, he has been involved in the treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias and in scientific research on this topic. Since 2002, he has been working at Almazov Centre.
He underwent training and internships in cardiology and arrhythmology in the USA, the Netherlands, and Germany.
In 2008, he defended his PhD thesis in Cardiology.
In 2012, he defended his doctoral thesis in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery on the topic “Improvement and effectiveness evaluation of interventional treatment of atrial fibrillation”.
Since 2014, he is running the Neuromodulation Research Laboratory as part of the Arrhythmology Department.
Under the mentorship of Evgeny Mikhaylov several PhD theses have been successfully defended; the research continues in several emergent directions.
A number of scientific clinical and experimental studies are underway, new approaches and methods of interventional treatment of cardiovascular diseases are being developed. Research studies of PhD students and co-workers have been repeatedly awarded professional prizes: the prize of the Russian Society of Cardiology, the All-Russian Scientific Society of Arrhythmology, the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg.
