endovascular methods for stroke prevention. It was organized by the vascular surgeons of the clinic headed by Mikhail Chernyavsky, Chief of the Research Department for Vascular and Interventional Surgery.

The course was devoted to current trends and innovative technologies for the treatment of patients with brachiocephalic atherosclerosis. Among the attendees were the experienced endovascular surgeons from various cities: Moscow, Kazan, Vologda, Petrozavodsk, Samara, Veliky Novgorod, Krasnodar, Kaluga.

They discussed the topical issues relating to the role of proximal and distal brain protection devices in endovascular treatment of carotid atherosclerosis, the possibilities of hybrid technologies in the treatment of multilevel lesions of the brachiocephalic arteries, the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to stroke prevention.

Dr. Chernyavsky successfully performed 2 carotid stenting procedures using proximal and distal protection systems, preceded by a clinical case discussion with the choice of optimal treatment tactics depending on the nature and location of atherosclerotic lesions of the carotid arteries.

The participants had the opportunity to observe the work of the European expert in endovascular surgery Professor Antonio Micari, head of the Clinical Institute Humanitas Gavazzeni – X-ray endovascular surgery centre in Bergamo, Italy. Professor Micari also shared his experience of anti-embolic brain protection during revascularization of complex lesions of brachiocephalic arteries. He praised the high professionalism of the staff of the vascular surgery clinic and modern OR facilities allowing for unique hybrid procedures on the carotid arteries.

Ending the course, the clinic specialists shared with colleagues their own experience in the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions of the brachiocephalic arteries using endovascular and hybrid technologies.

Training workshops with international participation are crucial to the development of Russian vascular surgery because knowledge of modern technologies and world trends contributes to the professional growth of surgeons, and their practical application to the provision of highly qualified medical care for patients, reducing mortality and perioperative neurological complications.
