Translational Medicine Cluster

 

Goal

Scientific and Educational Medical Cluster “Translational Medicine” was established following the decision of the Scientific Council of the Russian Ministry of Health to create the framework for the innovative development of medical science and healthcare; ensure scientific and technological advancement, personnel training and rapid integration of research findings into the healthcare practice; provide a full translational cycle of scientific research and design works resulting in new drugs and prototypes of medical devices in the priority areas of science and technology.

Objectives

  • providing innovative talent cultivation, training of academic, medical and nursing staff for scientific and educational institutions as well as for healthcare providers of specialized and high-tech medical care
  • carrying out basic and applied research with the use of the unique equipment to promote the innovative development and improvement of healthcare in Russia
  • performing the full innovative cycle of research and design activities including prototyping
  • developing and implementing innovative approaches to the management of scientific institutions and organization of scientific and educational processes within the cluster system; developing information technologies for research planning and implementation of developed solutions
  • developing and coordinating the international activities related to health sciences for the advancement of the Russian healthcare and economy
  • reducing the time of development, implementation and production of the most popular innovative health products by creating an attractive environment for the realization of scientific ideas and promoting potentially compelling research and development products in the medical market
  • carrying out preclinical and clinical trials of the developed medical prototypes both at institutions within the cluster and by organizing multicenter clinical trials
  • providing patent and licensing support and protection of intellectual property rights for innovative technology developers; providing a full cycle of copyright registration to obtain international patents
  • providing an enabling environment for funding and incubation of small innovative companies (startups)
  • Encouraging direct investment for innovative projects

The Cluster participants will create the following high-tech medical products:

New pathogenetically proved molecular, cellular and tissue targets of socially significant diseases for diagnosis and treatment

Medical devices for diagnosis and treatment
New diagnostic and treatment technologies
New joint programmes for higher and post-graduate education
 Electronic educational resources (online courses, simulators, etc.) for joint educational programmes

Priority activities:

  • Forecasting and analysis including foresight, strategic planning of biomedical and pharmaceutical research, developing and implementing the roadmaps, identifying the priority areas, including with the use new web-based tools, performing the expert assessment of projects at different levels
  • Organizing and carrying out research (R&D)
  • Providing educational experience, practice-oriented educational programmes for science and business, personnel training and professional development, nurturing young talent
  • Conducting informational activities: providing information to the media about the areas of the Cluster’s expertise, information support for major events, communications with Russian and European clusters as well as with other related structures; holding conferences, meetings, seminars, schools, etc.
  • Carrying out organizational and financial activities, fundraising
  • Ensuring sustainable development of the Scientific and Educational Medical Cluster
